# Working offline & draft preservation

> Lost your Wi-Fi for a moment?

Lost your Wi-Fi for a moment? Chief handles it gracefully. Your work in progress is kept, and anything you tried to send is held until you're back online.

## What you'll see when you go offline

A banner appears at the top of the screen reading **You're offline**, with the note **Submissions are paused — your draft is saved.** Whatever you've typed in the [prompt bar](/help/the-prompt-bar-scope/the-prompt-bar-a-tour-of-your-chat-controls) stays exactly where it is.

If you submit a prompt while offline, it doesn't disappear — it's queued. The prompt shows a pill that reads **Will send when you reconnect**. You can click **Cancel** on that pill if you change your mind.

## What happens when you reconnect

1. As your connection comes back, the banner changes to **Reconnecting…**
2. Once you're back, it turns green and shows **Back online**, then disappears.
3. Any prompt you queued sends automatically — you don't have to resubmit it.

  ℹ️ **Good to Know:** Your draft and any queued prompt are kept on your device, so a brief network blip won't cost you the prompt you were writing.

## FAQ

  <Accordion title="I typed a long prompt and lost connection — is it gone?">
    No. The offline banner confirms "your draft is saved." Your text stays in the prompt bar; just wait for the **Back online** banner and send it.

  <Accordion title="I hit send while offline. Do I need to send it again later?">
    No. The prompt is queued with a **Will send when you reconnect** pill and goes out automatically once you're back online. If you no longer want it sent, click **Cancel** on the pill.

  <Accordion title="A response was streaming when my connection dropped. What happens to it?">
    Chief tries to reconnect to the in-progress response — you'll see a "Reconnecting…" state. Many responses [keep generating on Chief's side](/help/chatting-with-chief/running-chats-in-the-background-browser-notifications) and reappear once you're back. If the connection can't be restored, [resend your prompt](/help/troubleshooting/a-chat-failed-or-stopped-how-to-recover).
