# Turning answers & Concepts into visuals — charts, infographics, word clouds, mind maps, timelines (Visualize)

You just asked Chief to break down last quarter's numbers, and you got a clean, accurate answer — a few paragraphs and a table. It's correct, but you have a board meeting in ten minutes and a wall of text won't land. With **Visualize**, you turn that same content into a bar chart in a couple of clicks, then download it straight into your deck. No re-prompting, no copying numbers into a spreadsheet, no design tool.
Visualize takes content Chief already has — an answer, a [Concept](/help/concepts/what-are-concepts), a File, or [text you've highlighted](/help/chatting-with-chief/the-text-selection-menu-act-on-any-passage) — and renders it as a chart, infographic, word cloud, mind map, timeline, or image. The data and wording come from the underlying content, so the visual stays faithful to what Chief actually said.
## A worked example
Here's the fastest path from data to a chart, using a File in your Library:
1. Open your [**Library**](/help/your-knowledge-library/what-is-the-library) and select a File that contains comparable numbers — for example a [spreadsheet](/help/how-chief-works-magic-under-the-hood/how-chief-processes-spreadsheets) (our ACME demo uses a star dataset).
2. In the selection toolbar, click **Visualize 1 File**.
3. In the Visualize window, choose **select the visuals yourself**.
4. Under **Charts & Data Visualizations**, click **Bar Chart**.
5. Click **Go**.
Chief reads the data, builds the chart, and lists it under **Created Files** in the answer. Click the chart to open it in a panel, where it's titled and labeled from your data — and where you can download it as a PNG or HTML, or keep it in your Project.
## What you can create
When you choose **select the visuals yourself**, the Visualize window groups every option into categories. The two most useful for analysis are:
* **[Charts & Data Visualizations](/help/creating-exporting/generating-charts-visualizations)** — Bar Chart, Pie Chart, Infographic, Comparison Table Graphic, Word Cloud.
* **Process & Flow Visualizations** — Timeline, Flowchart, Step-by-Step Guide, Mind Map.
There are also [image categories](/help/creating-exporting/generating-images-beta) for when you want a picture rather than a chart: **Images & Scenes** (Photorealistic Scene, Metaphorical Image, Conceptual Illustration), **Content & Media** (Blog Post Hero Image, Social Media Post Image, Comic Strip), **Design & Product** (Product Mockup, Logo/Icon, Architectural Visualization), and **Artistic** (Character Portrait, Abstract Art).
ℹ️ **Good to Know:** Chief builds charts from numbers that exist in the content. If you ask for a Bar Chart but the content has no comparable figures, Chief tells you instead of inventing data. Make sure the underlying answer or File contains the numbers you want charted before you Visualize it.
## Where the Visualize action lives
You can start Visualize from wherever your content already is:
* **On a File** — select one or more Files in your **Library** and click **Visualize** in the selection toolbar (each File card also has its own **Visualize** button).
* **On an answer** — open [the response menu](/help/chatting-with-chief/working-with-an-answer-the-response-menu) under the answer and choose **Visualize this answer**.
* **On a Concept** — [open the Concept](/help/concepts/navigating-the-concepts-view-viewing-concept-details) and choose **Visualize this Concept**.
* **On selected text** — highlight text inside an answer and choose **Visualize** from the **Do more with this text** menu.
## Choosing your visuals vs. Surprise me
However you open it, the Visualize window opens the same way. You have two routes:
* **Surprise me** lets Chief pick the most fitting visuals for you — use the **Create the N best visuals from this content** dropdown to choose how many.
* **select the visuals yourself** is for when you know exactly what you want — a single Pie Chart, or a Timeline plus a Mind Map together. You can select more than one option at a time.
## FAQ
Charts are built from figures in the underlying content. If the answer or File is descriptive with no comparable values, there's nothing to plot. Re-ask your question so the answer returns the specific numbers, then Visualize it.
Yes. Highlight the text you want, then choose **Visualize** from the **Do more with this text** menu. Chief uses only the highlighted text.
Image generation is a beta feature and can occasionally misspell a label or misrender a number — the Visualize window warns you about this. Always double-check the underlying data before you share a visual. See the article on generating images for more on this beta behavior.
Each one is created as a File, listed under **Created Files** in the answer. Open it to view it in a panel, download it as PNG or HTML, or [keep it in your Project Library](/help/your-knowledge-library/saving-a-chat-answer-back-to-your-library) to reuse.
