# Chief on web, desktop & browser extension

## Meet Chief wherever you work

Chief runs in three places so you can capture and ask about information without switching context: the **web app**, a **desktop app**, and a **browser extension**. Your account and data follow you across all of them.

## Web

The web app is the full Chief experience and the place most people start — it runs in your browser at **chief.bot**. Everything in this help center ([Projects](/help/projects-sharing-teams/what-is-a-project), [Library](/help/your-knowledge-library/what-is-the-library), [chats](/help/chatting-with-chief/how-chats-work), [Skills](/help/skills/what-are-skills), [Expert Voices](/help/expert-voices/what-are-expert-voices)) lives here. Nothing to install.

## Desktop app

The [desktop app](/help/meetings-live-sessions/installing-the-chief-desktop-app-mac-required-for-capture) runs on your computer and powers [**Live Sessions**](/help/meetings-live-sessions/what-are-live-sessions) — it listens to your meetings, captures every decision and commitment, and auto-assigns follow-ups. You connect it to your account with a [pairing code](/help/meetings-live-sessions/pairing-managing-devices-updating-the-app) generated in the web app under Settings → Devices.

## Browser extension

The browser extension (available for Chrome and Firefox) adds a side panel so you can **summarize and chat with any web page** and [save pages into a Project](/help/your-knowledge-library/adding-web-pages-urls-to-your-library). Install it from the **"Install Extension"** link in the navigation sidebar footer.

  ℹ️ **Good to Know:** The desktop app and extension are companions to the web app, not replacements. You still manage Projects, Files, and settings in the web app at chief.bot.

## FAQ

  <Accordion title="How do I connect the desktop app to my account?">
    In the web app go to Settings → Devices, generate a pairing code, and enter that code in the Chief app on your computer. It then shows as paired with your device.

  <Accordion title="The extension says it doesn't work on this page. Why?">
    Some pages can't be read by the extension (for example, browser system pages or pages that block content extraction). Open a normal article or document page and try again.

  <Accordion title="Do I need the desktop app to use Live Sessions?">
    Yes. Live Sessions are powered by the desktop app — you'll be prompted to download the app to [start one](/help/meetings-live-sessions/starting-a-live-session).
