# Pairing & managing devices · Updating the app

> Pairing links the Chief desktop app on your computer to your Chief web account, so your Live Sessions sync.

## Pairing connects the app to your account

Pairing links the [**Chief** desktop app](/help/meetings-live-sessions/installing-the-chief-desktop-app-mac-required-for-capture) on your computer to your Chief web account, so your [Live Sessions](/help/meetings-live-sessions/what-are-live-sessions) sync. You do it once per device with a pairing code.

## Pair a device

1. In the web app, go to **Settings** › **Devices**.
2. Click **Generate pairing code**. Your code appears under **Your pairing code**; use **Copy** if you want it on your clipboard.
3. Open the **Chief** app on your computer (find it in your **Applications** folder).
4. Paste the code into the box in the app.

Once linked, the device shows as **Paired**.

<Warning>
  ⚠️ **Important:** Pairing codes expire. If yours shows **Expired**, generate a new one and paste the fresh code into the app.
</Warning>

## Manage and revoke devices

**Settings** › **Devices** lists every linked device, each with when it was created — alongside [the rest of your account settings](/help/account-settings/managing-your-profile). To unlink one:

1. Find the device in the list.
2. Click **Revoke**.
3. Confirm. Revoking signs that device out immediately; you can pair it again later with a new code.

<Note>
  ℹ️ **Good to know:** You need to be [signed in](/help/getting-started/creating-your-account-signing-in) to manage devices. Signed-out users are prompted to sign in first.
</Note>

## Updating the app

Keep the desktop app current so [capture](/help/meetings-live-sessions/starting-a-live-session) keeps working. The app checks for updates automatically and installs them the next time you restart it — you don't need to manually re-download anything.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="My pairing code says "Expired" — what now?">
    Generate a new code from **Settings** › **Devices** and paste the new one into the app. Codes are time-limited on purpose.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I revoked a device by mistake. Can I get it back?">
    Yes. Revoking only signs that device out. Generate a new pairing code and pair the device again.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The app won't pair — it doesn't accept my code.">
    Make sure you're pasting the current code (not an expired one), and that you generated it while signed in to the right account. Generate a fresh code and try again.
