# Searching a transcript

> A Live Session doesn't have a dedicated transcript search box.

## Two ways to find something in a meeting

A [Live Session](/help/meetings-live-sessions/what-are-live-sessions) doesn't have a dedicated transcript search box. To find what was said, you can scroll the transcript directly, or ask Chief about the meeting in a chat — which is the more powerful option.

## Scroll the transcript

1. Open **Live Sessions** and open the session you want.
2. Scroll [the **Transcript** panel](/help/meetings-live-sessions/copying-downloading-sharing-transcripts). Each turn is timecoded and labeled by speaker, so you can scan to the moment you need.

  ℹ️ **Tip:** Your browser's own find-on-page (**Cmd-F** on Mac) searches the text that's currently loaded on the page.

## Ask Chief about the meeting

The better way to "search" a meeting is to ask about it. When you [start a chat from a Live Session](/help/meetings-live-sessions/starting-a-chat-from-a-meeting), the session rides along as context, so Chief answers from the transcript and the items it extracted:

1. Open the session and find a **Chat suggestion**.
2. Click **Start chat** to open a chat grounded in that meeting.
3. Ask things like "What did we decide about pricing?" or "Find where the launch date was discussed."

Because the meeting is in [the chat's scope](/help/the-prompt-bar-scope/setting-the-scope-of-a-chat-using-files-labels-collections-concepts), you can search by meaning, not just exact words.

    There isn't a built-in transcript search field. Scroll the transcript, use your browser's find-on-page for exact text, or start a chat from the session and ask Chief.

    If the meeting captured little or no audio, there's little transcript to search. Confirm the session actually has [a transcript](/help/meetings-live-sessions/how-transcription-works-speaker-attribution) (it won't say "No transcript yet"), and make sure you started the chat from that session so the meeting is in scope.
