# A meeting didn't transcribe

> Option A — Empty Live Session ("No transcript yet").

## Symptoms

* A Live Session opens but shows **No transcript yet.**
* An audio recording failed: "An error occurred while recording. Please try again."
* You see **No microphone found** or **Microphone access was denied**.
* You expected a Zoom meeting transcript and it never appeared.

## Likely causes

* The Live Session needs [the Chief app](/help/meetings-live-sessions/installing-the-chief-desktop-app-mac-required-for-capture) — Live Sessions are captured by the desktop app, not the web console.
* Your browser or system blocked microphone access.
* No working microphone was connected.
* Zoom isn't connected, so meeting transcripts can't sync.

## Solution

**Option A — Empty Live Session ("No transcript yet").**

1. [Live Sessions](/help/meetings-live-sessions/what-are-live-sessions) are captured by the Chief app. From the **Live Sessions** view, click **Download the app** if you haven't installed it.
2. Start the session from the app so it can listen to the meeting and build the transcript. A session captured this way [fills in **Summary**, **Decisions**, and **Action items**](/help/meetings-live-sessions/auto-generated-summaries-decisions-action-items-chat-suggestions) automatically.

**Option B — Microphone error on an in-app recording.**

1. If you saw **Microphone access was denied**, allow microphone access in your browser settings (site permissions or the lock icon in the address bar), then start the recording again.
2. If you saw **No microphone found**, connect a microphone, then click the microphone to start recording again.
3. For a generic recording error, click **try again** and re-record.

**Option C — Zoom meeting transcript didn't sync.**

1. Open [**Integrations**](/help/meetings-live-sessions/connecting-zoom-to-auto-sync-transcripts-chat-logs). Zoom "automatically syncs meeting transcripts and chat logs from Zoom" — but only once connected.
2. Click **Connect Zoom**. Because integrations are a paid feature, this opens a **Book a Call** step to get your integration set up.

<Warning>
  ⚠️ **Important:** There is no transcript search box. To [find something in a transcript](/help/meetings-live-sessions/searching-a-transcript), open the Live Session and read or scroll the **Transcript** tab, or [click **Start chat**](/help/meetings-live-sessions/starting-a-chat-from-a-meeting) to ask Chief about it.
</Warning>

## Still stuck?

If a session was captured by the app but still shows no transcript, or a connected Zoom meeting never synced, email **[support@chief.bot](mailto:support@chief.bot)** with the session name and meeting date.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="The session recorded but the transcript is blank.">
    A blank transcript usually means [no audio reached the app](/help/meetings-live-sessions/how-transcription-works-speaker-attribution) — check that the right microphone and system audio source were active during the meeting. If audio was captured but the transcript is still empty, contact support with the session details.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I record a meeting from the web app instead of the app?">
    Live Sessions that listen to a meeting are captured by the Chief app. The web app supports audio recordings you start yourself, but for automatic meeting capture, decisions, and action items, use the app.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why does "Connect Zoom" send me to book a call?">
    Integrations are available to paying users, so connecting Zoom routes you to book a call to get set up. Once connected, Zoom meeting transcripts and chat logs sync automatically.
