Connect Notion

Chief - the Connect button on the Notion integration card
Connecting Notion lets you sync some or all of your Notion workspace with a Chief Project, so Chief can read the pages and databases you choose to share. Notion connects with an Internal Integration Secret you create in Notion and paste into Chief.
⚠️ Important: You need to be an administrator in your Notion account to create the integration.

Steps

  1. Open Settings, select Integrations, find the Notion card, and click Connect. The Connect Notion window opens with five steps.
  2. Go to Notion Integrations. Open notion.so/my-integrations (linked in the window). In the bottom-left corner, click Internal Integrations.
  3. Create a new integration. Set the Name to Chief, optionally download and use the provided Chief icon, and choose your workspace.
  4. Paste your Internal Integration Secret. Copy the secret from Notion and paste it into the Paste your Internal Integration Secret field (it starts with secret_).
  5. Configuration. In Notion, enable every required scope: Read content, Update content, Insert content, Read comments, Insert comments, and Read user information including emails.
  6. Content Access. In your new Chief integration in Notion, go to Content Access and choose which teamspaces or pages to make available to Chief.
  7. Back in Chief, click Connect. When it succeeds, the card shows Connected.
⚠️ Important: All required scope boxes must be checked, or the integration won’t work.

What Chief can do once connected

  • Access the Notion pages, databases, and teamspaces you shared through Content Access.
  • Use that Notion content alongside your Library inside the Project you connected it to.

Disconnect

To disconnect, open the Notion card and click Disconnect (or open the Notion Integration window and click Disconnect) — see connection status. The card returns to a Connect state.

FAQ

Chief shows “Failed to connect Notion. Please check your token and try again.” Confirm you pasted the Internal Integration Secret (starting with secret_), that every required scope is checked in Notion, and that you shared at least one page or teamspace via Content Access. Then try again.
Notion only exposes what you explicitly share. In your Chief integration in Notion, open Content Access and add the teamspace or page you want Chief to read.
It’s one of the required scopes for the integration to function. All listed scopes must be enabled in Notion or the connection won’t work.
