The Google Workspace integration connects a Google service account so Chief can access your organization’s Gmail, Calendar, and Drive on behalf of your users. You configure it once for the whole Organization, and it relies on Google’s domain-wide delegation to authorize access.

Open Integrations

Chief - the Google Workspace integration card with Add integration in org settings
  1. Open the account menu (your avatar) and choose Organization, then select Integrations in the left-hand navigation.
  2. Find Google Workspace and select Add integration to start setup.

Set up Google Workspace

Chief - the Google Workspace setup form with domain and Service account JSON key fields
The Setup instructions panel in Chief walks you through the Google side, then the Chief side:
  1. Create a service account in your Google Cloud project.
  2. Enable the Gmail, Calendar, Drive, and People APIs in that project.
  3. In the Workspace Admin Console, go to Security → Access and data control → API controls → Domain-wide delegation, and authorize the service account’s client ID with the scopes Chief lists.
  4. Download the service account JSON key, then paste it into Service account JSON key or use Upload JSON in Chief.
  5. Enter your Google Workspace domain, choose which Projects the integration applies to, and select Save configuration.
⚠️ Important: Only an organization owner can configure the Google Workspace integration. If you’re not an owner, ask your administrator to set it up. The integration is also gated by your plan — if it’s not included, you’ll be prompted to upgrade.

Managing the integration

Each connected domain appears in the Integrations list. Use Edit to update its configuration, or Remove to delete the Google Workspace integration for that domain. Each Project can have one Google Workspace integration; if every Project already has one, Chief tells you there are no available Projects to add.

Frequently asked questions

That user’s email is on a domain that isn’t the connected Workspace domain. The integration only covers accounts on the domain you configured. Confirm the user is on the right domain, or have an owner add the correct domain.
This usually means domain-wide delegation wasn’t authorized for the service account’s client ID, or a required scope is missing. Re-check the delegation step in the Workspace Admin Console and authorize the exact scopes Chief lists, then save again.
Yes. During setup you select which Projects the integration applies to. A Project can have at most one Google Workspace integration.
