Symptoms

  • You’re prompted to Reconnect Google to grant Calendar access.
  • Files stopped syncing from a connected service.
  • A direct connection does not open or finish.
  • Google Workspace setup shows a permission or plan error.

Likely causes

  • An access token expired or a required permission (scope) wasn’t granted.
  • Your browser blocked the connection pop-up or redirect.
  • Only an organization owner can configure the Google Workspace integration.
  • Your plan doesn’t include the integration yet.

Solution

Option A — “Reconnect Google to grant Calendar access.”
  1. The prompt appears on a Connect Google card in your task, under a Missing access: list of what Chief still needs. Use this card to grant missing access. The separate Google Calendar card under Settings › Integrations controls whether Chief schedules Live Sessions for calendar meetings — see where each integration connects.
  2. Click Connect Google and complete the Google consent screen, making sure to allow the access being requested (for example, Calendar). Syncing resumes once the permission is granted.
Option B — A direct connection does not finish.
  1. Google connects from a task: ask Chief something that needs your Google account, then select Connect Google on the card it shows, allow pop-ups and redirects, and approve the requested permissions.
  2. Notion is connected once for the whole organization by an owner under Organization › Integrations. If Notion rejects the stored token, the header shows Reconnect required and syncing pauses — click Reconnect, then paste a new Access token from your Notion connection, checking that it has the Required capabilities: Chief lists.   3. Return to Chief after the provider finishes. If Chief lists Missing access:, connect again and approve every requested permission.
Option C — Google Workspace org integration errors.
  1. If you see “Only an organization owner can configure the Google Workspace integration,” ask your administrator to set it up.
  2. If Google Workspace is missing from Organization › Integrations and a Connect Chief to your team’s tools card lists it instead, your plan doesn’t include it yet. Click See plans on that card to upgrade.
  3. When pasting a service account key, paste the full contents of the JSON key file, or you’ll get “That doesn’t look like a valid JSON key.”
ℹ️ Good to know: The Google Workspace integration is configured once for the whole organization and lets the platform access Gmail, Calendar, and Drive on behalf of your users. Each project can have one Google Workspace integration.

FAQ

Make sure you actually granted the requested access on the Google consent screen — declining or skipping a scope leaves the integration partially connected. Reconnect and approve all requested permissions, then retry.
The Zoom integration has been retired. Capture the meeting with the Chief Live Sessions App, or upload an existing transcript afterward.
Only an organization owner can configure it. Ask your administrator to set up the Google Workspace integration for your organization.
